From Patenting to Applied Science
On Tuesday, May 28, Technology Transfer Office, in cooperation with the Faculty of Pharmacy, organized the afternoon event dedicated to technology transfer, patenting and the role of entrepreneurship in the education system "From Patenting to Applied Science". In the premises of CEITEC MU gathered two dozen interested people who could be inspired by the lectures of the holder of the prestigious Fulbright scholarship Dr. Yashwant Pathak from the American University of South Florida and intellectual property manager at Masaryk University, Dr. Markéta Vlasáková from TTO.

During the first lecture, Dr. Markéta Vlasáková from TTO outlined the specifics and conditions of patenting and publishing. She emphasized the necessity to consider the strategy of patenting itself and invited all interested scientists or Ph.D. students to consult the Technology Transfer Office for possible commercialization of their ideas and research.
The next part of the event was followed by a presentation by Dr. Yashwant Pathak from the University of South Florida, who is hosted by the Faculty of Pharmacy as part of a Fulbright Scholarship. Dr. Pathak serves as Associate Dean at his home university and has a particular focus on healthcare education, nanotechnology, and drug delivery systems and nutraceuticals. However, his view of education has a broader perspective. In his paper, he discussed the need for universities to adapt to changes in society and the associated requirements for changing student competencies. It is no longer enough to educate students, but it is necessary to react promptly to changes in the labour market and to adapt the content of studies. After reflecting on the role of entrepreneurship and appropriate competences, he introduced the issue of startups and specific incubators in the USA.
From June 3 to 6, TTO will host international colleagues from transfer centers and project offices as part of Masaryk University Staff Training Week. Dr. Pathak will meet with the participants of the event as part of the program on the theme of "meeting the scientist" and will share again his experiences both from his time at Masaryk University and from his own long-standing research.
